Dear Isolation #6

First day of lock down and we took on a new lodger.

Before anyone reports us to the government.. let me explain. Jack is currently living in shared accommodation with 3 other house mates, one of which has been deemed vulnerable and asked not to leave the house for 12 weeks – obviously not the ideal situation in a shared living arrangement. Jack and the family decided that it would be safest for him to stay with us during the lock down period, he also makes a great cup of tea so that helped his cause.

We spent a good chunk of the morning sorting Hotel Raynor out for Jack’s arrival. Mum has recently gone full Maria Kondo and has begun folding all the towels like you’d find them at a hotel, so I lovingly placed one at the end of the bed for Jack (don’t think he noticed). I cleared out a large chunk of the wardrobe for him including a lot of hanging space, turns out you don’t need to hang hoodies and joggers. He bought the essentials – his Xbox and Alexa (He needs another woman to self isolate with apparently).

While Jack was sorting his stuff out, mum and Amy made the most of the nice weather and played some games outside. It was too windy for Badminton apparently but they had more success with boules – you have to play the ‘extreme’ version at ours because the lawn is bumpy and on a hill but it adds to the excitement. (Also could we get more middle class if we tried? Badminton and Boules!)

Everyone bravely agreed to me cooking dinner. Cooking is something that, as hard as I try, I cannot seem to conjure a love for. It’s a small miracle when I get something on the table without a) breaking something b) Burning something or c) crying. I did however, with minimal stress, manage to produce a not too shabby veggie chilli with cheesy nachos. I even made my own guacamole (go me!). Amy asked for seconds so I call that a win.

We enjoy our Tuesday night telly in the Raynor household. Bake off is obviously a firm favourite and that combined with our second favourite Doncaster lad (Obviously Grandad takes top spot) Tan France was a treat. We have also, slightly guiltily, been enjoying 5 Guys a Week which is on straight after. The concept is that one girl has five guys to stay for a week and she has to eliminate them one by one until she chooses who she wants to date. It is pretty brain dead watching, with a lot of toe curling peacocking and male bravado but we enjoy it none the less. Later that evening Jack and I started watching the new Netflix series ‘Tiger King’ which is such a fascinating watch, I won’t even attempt to try and describe the utter madness it entails – just watch it.

Photos were lacking today, so due to requests I have included a dog picture. It is of one of our favourite dogs that we have looked after. Her name is Venus and she is a retired racing Greyhound, she’s lazy as anything but gorgeous. She isn’t wearing a hat but it’s the next best thing so I hope she puts a smile on your face.
