Dear Isolation #8

As much as I am trying to focus on the little gems found in quarantine, I don’t want to brush over the fact that this is an overwhelming and confusing time for everyone. Emotions were running quite high yesterday morning, not for any particular reason but I think it comes with the nature of the current situation. I had some work to do which ended up being a flop, Amy had a bit of a baking disaster in the kitchen. Both menial in the grand scheme of things but it does feel like everything is a bit heightened at the moment.

Jack and I decided to go for a stroll to appreciate the sunshine and clear the head. We got a little too excited whenever we saw another human, I say that – we saw one cyclist and one woman walking her dogs (extra excitement for the dogs). It’s a strange time when you revel in an awkward ‘hello’ from 2 metres with a stranger. We made the most of that sweet vitamin D by sitting out in the garden after our walk, we were also banned from the kitchen due to Mum and Amy being on mission birthday.

In the evening we joined nearly 100,000 other people in a live stream of a virtual pub quiz. This guy had just intended on streaming it to a few people he knew in his local area and it had blown up massively. We went head to head in teams; Jack, Dad and I (Quiz this the real life?) Vs Mum and Amy (Team Quizney). Jack is a good asset to a pub quiz team but struggles with his indoor voice, which is grand in a noisy pub but not so helpful when the other team are on the opposite sofa in a silent living room. The quiz master’s internet was a little flaky so we had to interpret some of the questions and answers, no different I suppose to straining to listen over the shitfaced pub goers. The final scores were…. drum roll please…. 23/50 to Team Quizney and 30/50 to Quiz this the real life?.

We did participate in the 8 O’clock NHS clap of appreciation. I think we may only have been heard by the Alpacas but we wanted to show our support none the less. I saw a video of the clap happening in London and it was incredible, such an amazing turn out and rightly so. To any key workers who might be reading this, you are incredible and I owe you drinks for life.
