Day 20! Not sure if that’s the longest 20 days of my life or the shortest…
Amy and I chickened out on the exercise and left mum to it – she felt bad that she hadn’t done it the day before, so powered on through. She followed a workout put up on Facebook by the gym that she attends which replicated the circuit of exercises that she usually follows. She did the advance one (because she’s hench) and said it was harder than she expected.
We all, as per usual on weekdays, spent the majority getting on with our own work/crafting etc. Though Mum and Amy ventured out of the house for a stroll, well more of a trek, on the one hour round trip to the local village (without any post to send, now that’s motivation). They took lots of pictures, including the necessary walk selfie and one of some neighbourhood donkeys – My dream is to one day own a donkey and call it Wallace. They also, very excitingly, found a massive hole in the road which Amy bravely put her hand in to measure the size and depth of it. The road to ours is hazardous at the best of times, Jack regrets choosing to date a rural gal every time he drives to me, but this was a beauty. You know life is dull when you’re excited by potholes.
The excitement of the day however peaked with a virtual birthday party/quiz for our cousin/nephew Tom, kindly organised by his girlfriend Annie. As a whole we aren’t the most tech-savvy family (apart from dad, obviously) so the hilarity of organising 14 people into a skype call was a bit too much. We had people dropping out left right and centre, Julie changed location about 15 times and Tom (who didn’t know any of this was happening) decided to go for a jog just as we were meant to start. We got there in the end and most of us got to the end! Grandma made Tom a Cherry and Ginger cake which she stuck ‘Happy Birthday’ candles into, nothing more delicious than a highly pixelated cake that you can’t eat for 3 months. Amy made carrot cake muffins for our quiz snack.
There were some luxury prizes on offer in the quiz; 3rd place won a packet of penne paste, 2nd place won a half bottle of hand sanitiser and 1st place won the coveted prize of a singular loo roll – so there was obviously a lot at stake. It was a close call throughout, Jack and I weren’t doing too badly, that was until the ‘Tom’ round – jack had a bit of a disadvantage on that one. The winners were in fact the team on the opposite sofa to us – Sal, Tim and Amy (who were the biggest team I should point out.) Hopefully, they will share the loo roll with us.
Despite the technical difficulties (actually they provided a lot of laughter), it was genuinely so lovely to see and speak to everyone. We don’t get to see each other THAT often as it is, with us midlanders a bit of a distance from the northerners but it was really appreciated to keep up that contact. We enjoyed it so much that we have decided to schedule one in for next week, with me as the quizmaster (pressure is on now).
