Dear Isolation #24 & #25

Another weekend round up… I blame my food coma for the lack of blog yesterday.

The factor 30 was officially out this weekend, us pasty folk can’t hack above 20 degrees. The gorgeous weather was definitely appreciated though and we spent a lot of the weekend chilling outside; reading, crafting, hairdressing… Jack decided that he couldn’t hack the length of his hair any longer and the clippers were charged. He requested a ‘skin fade’, I think his expectations were a bit high for Megan’s barbering abilities. He finished with two ears still in tact and no bald spots, so we will call that a success.

Amy’s baking success on Saturday were some hot cross buns that I think even Paul Hollywood himself would have been proud of. Perfectly shiny on the top and soft in the middle. I could only try a little bit because of my nemesis Gluten but they were absolutely delicious. Jack’s flour was put to good use.

I sacrificed my workout on Sunday for a lie in and just joined the two early birds for a bit of Easter Yoga (no different to normal yoga sadly, could have done with some baby rabbits to join me). We also went on a morning stroll before it got too hot to handle. We said Happy Easter to the cows and took an appropriate family selfie with them. We then ventured into the woods to see the bluebells, we could hear the Deers but I wasn’t lucky enough to see them.

When are you too old for an Easter Egg hunt I hear you ask? Clearly not until you’re at least 30. The annual Sally Easter egg hunt couldn’t be missed. She hid some plastic (and some chocolate) eggs around the garden with some riddles hidden inside, the beginning letter of the answers spelt out where the ‘prize’ was hidden. For three *relatively* intelligent humans it took us quite the think to work out some of the answers. One that we got the most stuck on was ‘what has a bottom at the top?’… plot twist the answer was legs. We eventually found the prize; which consisted of an egg for Amy and I, some fudge for Dad and Jack and she’d ordered some popcorn from a local business called ‘whats poppin’. Mine was caramel and vanilla, Dad’s and Jack’s was peanut butter brittle and Amy’s was mango flavoured!

Grandma pat had also been very prepared and made some Easter gifts for us ahead of lock down. She knitted a very cute rabbit, chicken and Easter basket which she filled with little eggs. She has been very busy and made 17 knitted Easter creatures for the residents of the home that my Auntie works at – I’m sure they were very much appreciated. On the knitting theme, mum also finished the chicken that she had been knitting just in time for Easter. It has been lovingly named Ethel.

We supported another local business by ordering our Easter Roast from ‘Hogs and Hops’ (who we ordered from on my birthday). We ordered a couple of giant Yorkshires and you could have fit a small human in them. The smokey cauliflower cheese was particularly nice. Dessert was on Amy, she’d made a Simnel cake (a fruit cake filled with marzipan). My contribution was helping blow torch the marzipan balls on top which was as fun as it sounds.
