Dear Isolation #38

Our sunny Saturday started off with a walk to the garden centre in search of eggs.

We said hello to Alan and Pete (The alpacas) as we left the farm, they always keep their distance (abiding by government guidelines of course). We also said hello to two cyclists who suddenly came up behind us and made us jump, the man didn’t have a bell so just had to shout (in a lovely Scottish accent) ‘EXCUSE US’. Turned out they were also on their way to the garden centre, beating us there and back. Mum nabbed the last 6 chicken eggs, much to Amy’s happiness as well as some blueberries for Amy’s porridge (she was spoilt even though she didn’t go on the walk) and some chocolate. An essential to keep menstrual Megan from crying.

Amy put the eggs to good use and whipped up some macaroons with a variety of centre combinations consisting of jam, chocolate and cream. It was Jack’s idea to add the cream (and whip it) so he takes credit for how delicious they tasted.

With the garage starting to clear we managed to get the netball hoop out which had been collecting dust and spider webs. Of course this brought out a great deal of competitiveness in all of us, seeing who could get the most scores in a row. Surprisingly, despite my awful hand-eye coordination, I held the record with a grand total of 4. Amy and I attempted to play against Jack in a weird hybrid of basketball, netball and football. I couldn’t tell you who won, it just resulted in me desperately trying to jump on Jack’s back to steal the ball from him as he showed off his dribbling skills.

Amy didn’t stop at Macaroons, she also whipped up a sourdough pizza Dough on which we all created our own pizzas. Jack (who worked as a pizza chef for 18 months) went very ham with his elaborate sprinkling and decorating. He’s also been learning Italian so spewed out some random lines of Italian while he pranced around the kitchen creating his masterpiece. He added a stuffed crust, which I initially doubted but was very jealous of when they came out of the oven. My creation consisted of goats cheese, mozzarella, cheddar (all the cheese), caramelised onion, red peppers, garlic and bbq seasoning – can confirm that eating that in the sunshine made for a very content Megan.
