Dear Isolation #40 & #41

Monday was spent mostly doing a lot of top secret birthday planning so I thought it best to combine into a birthday special and a special birthday it was.

We decided what better theme for Amy than a Disney birthday, can’t get to Disney so we brought it to us (sort of). I’d spent the last couple of days making bunting to decorate the kitchen, each triangle representing a different character. I’ll put the picture at the bottom and see if you can guess all the characters.

We’d also spent a lot of time prepping food… We decided to recreate some Disney park classics. Including rice crispy marshmallow Mickeys (which were incredibly messy and sticky to make), ‘Grey stuff’ cupcakes (from the line in Beauty and The Beast ‘try the grey stuff it’s delicious) and pineapple dole whip. For ‘meals’ we had hot dog and crisps, inspired by the time we thought we were ordering hot dog and fries but instead were given a packet of ready salted, and our version of poutine which was just chips, bisto gravy and mozzarella.

We had a day packed full of Disney themed activities too. We did some crafting and made our own ‘forkys’ inspired by the character in Toy Story 4 – even jack who finds crafting very stressful vaguely enjoyed himself. We played some party classics – pin the nose on Olaf and pass the parcel with Disney forfeits. Alexa plays pass the parcel if you ask her but she will only play one song which quickly gets a bit boring. Jack also compiled a mega Disney quiz with 8 and a half rounds – even for us Disney nerds it wasn’t easy! Amy and I drew with a respectable 64/120 – the music section helped me out.

Amy got some great games for her birthday which we also spent a lot of time playing. Jack got her one called ‘On your Marks’ where you each have a suction stick and in front of you is lots of cards with brand logos on, a card is read with something on like ‘brands with 5 letters’ and you must quickly suction up a card. At the beginning of the game you write out 3 logos secretly that are the ones you are trying to get, either through picking up or trading with others – the winner is the first to get their 3 logos. The second game was bananagrams which is based on scrabble but you don’t have a board and must create your own grid – it got the cogs turning.

Amy got lots of lovely gifts, we ate great food and had lots of laughs – can’t really complain at that quarantine birthday.
