I made the rookie error of again opting for a lie in over a stretch, this came back to haunt me later on the hour round trek to the post box.
Amy had a big pile of thank you cards that needed posting so we proposed our trip out to the postbox. Jack wanted to get in on the letter writing hype, I think mainly because I have some Hogwarts writing paper, so we had a chill time writing letters for various friends and family members. I have some ‘colour in’ postcards which we sent to a few people to give them 10 minutes of quarantine fun.
After lunch we donned our walking boots and wellies and set off to Norton, pockets full of letters. The pain that the hills caused my glutes was eased by the fact that we saw a grand total of 9 dogs, it’s a rarity to see a single human walking through the fields so we lucked out. We saw a stocky little Jack Russell early on in the walk who looked very excited to see other humans. Shortly after we saw a gorgeous Shitzu with floppy black ears who came hurtling towards us, it broke my heart that I couldn’t give him a fuss – didn’t want the owners thinking we were infecting their dog. Just as we arrived at the post box we saw our remaining 7 doggos, all with one couple! They had 6 gorgeous sheep dog and then one much smaller black Pomeranian hiding between them – bit too much excitement to handle.
Amy’s Sunday bake came from Grandma Pat’s recipe book – a ginger and cherry cake. Mid way through baking I heard ‘oh my cherries’ as she stared sadly into her kitchen aid to realise that it had churned up her cherries into tiny pieces which she had intended to be nice and chunky in the cake. She adapted it with gluten free flour mix knowing how much I love a ginger cake which meant that the texture was a little bit claggy but I didn’t mind (maybe I’m used to it) and thought it was delicious, especially warm straight out the oven.
In the evening we played ‘Jack Box TV’ on Amy’s switch which is a variety of games you play connecting your phone to the console, so you can answer questions, draw, input items etc. The games were of varied enjoyment from family members aka mum and dad didn’t enjoy the ones I like the most. There’s a great one that you have to do different tasks given to your phone with one person being the faker and not knowing the task…so for example it’ll say ‘put up as many fingers as alcoholic drinks you’ve had in the past 24 hours’ and the faker just has to guess how many fingers to put up and blag their way through it, while everyone has to work out who the faker is. Maybe it would have been more appreciated after a few bevs…
