Dear Isolation #48 & #49

Nearly at day 50, now that is pure madness.

Tuesday started strong with an abs and arm workout and the daily reminder that planks never get easier. Technology however was not on my side and all the work that I tried to achieve was halted by various technical issues – you know just one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? I took myself on a walk (to prevent bashing my head against a wall) which was definitely a good move. I ended up having chats with both of nearest neighbours (from a distance of course), nice to hear a different voice and see a different face now and again. I also snuck a cuddle with one of their dog’s who came up and hugged my leg which brought me an infinite amount of joy – boy have I missed dogs. I also said hello to a few strangers as we crossed paths, ending one encounter to an elderly gentleman with ‘nice to see you’ – a bit of a weird thing to say to someone I’ve known for 10 seconds but I suppose I wasn’t lying.

Amy and mum also went on a stroll and went to see next door’s chickens and thanked them for the eggs – gotta support the local businesses. Eggs are in high demand in the Raynor household with the constant production of baked goods – it just keeps getting better and better. Mum and I have said that Amy can never go back to uni. She made a batch of ginger and dark chocolate cookies on Tuesday which were as good as they sound (not GF but worth the risk). Mum also made the left over sourdough pastry (from lemon meringue pie) into a delicious chicken pie for dinner – hands down the best pastry I have ever had.

Tuesday evening’s entertainment was the weekly family quiz – technology was actually on our side for this one. Grandma hosted the two rounds that she didn’t manage to do last week – one on the natural world and one on members of the family (she didn’t know the answers to half of these). Tom and Annie then wrote a round each. Tom had recently measured his top running speed and we had to guess out of a list of 10 animals which ones he could out run – can confirm that he is faster than a house fly, gold fish and a chicken but not a Turkey. Annie had made a photo round in which she photoshopped our faces onto different shots from films and we had to guess which film and which actors. Jack and I made a particularly fetching Troy and Gabriella from High School Musical.

Wednesday began with some ‘Restorative yoga’ – what everyone needs right? Well, apart from Amy. We haven’t converted her to yoga and she ended up calling quits half way through and going instead to do an abs workout – is she okay? Mum and I particularly appreciated the meditation at the end. Mum and Amy ended up getting more exercise on their adventurous walk up to the country park next to the wood which I’m informed was the perfect dog spotting place – will definitely have to join them next time. They also knabbed a cuddle with the lambs, so it’s fair to say that I’m very jealous that I had to do work over that. Jack also had a very productive day getting stuck into the screenplay writing that he’s been putting off, I’ll update you when he win’s an Oscar.

I had work over Zoom in the evening while Dad, Mum and Amy watched Coco – which Dad and Mum hadn’t seen. We had warned mum of how utterly heart breaking it is and she was prepped with the loo roll BUT it didn’t make her cry. Not until she saw Amy sobbing did she shed a tear. This is mum who could cry for days at Mama Mia but apparently wasn’t moved by the Disney magic. Shocked.
