Another Friday rolls around again, the cabin fever is really starting to set in now but we’re still powering through.
Friday was fuelled by Amy’s sourdough lemon cake, which was absolutely delicious. It had a kind of iced bun taste and texture to it which made for a very happy Megan who has not yet found gluten free iced buns. She also made a seeded sourdough (not sure what day that was but thought I’d mention that now!) which she described as ‘seeds held together by bread dough’, it had more of a cracker consistency but still nice – I just think next time she’ll cut down on the ‘ol seeds.
Dad has spent the past couple of days restocking the wood shed (just an excuse to use his tractor I think). We’ve got enough wood to last us through several treacherous winters, ironically just as it has started to get warmer again. The weather forecast for next week is getting us through.
On Saturday I made the most of the new lock down guidelines and my pal Jodi and her westie Aston came over for a distanced dog walk, was I more excited to see Jodi or Aston? You decide. It was weird not being able to give her a cuddle after 8 weeks but felt really good to have some relatively normal social interaction not through a screen. We had a little picnic, each with our own packed lunches and sat on a blanket by the buttercup field. We then had a walk through the wood. A little way in we heard a rustle and turned and saw one of the deer in a passage in the trees, it then quickly turned and ran, joining another 3/4 more. Aston wanted to take on the deer, small dog syndrome.
We had a few funny Aston moments. He got his lead wrapped around a little tree and we tried to guide him back the other way but instead he just leapt forward, bringing the tree down with him (almost landing on him!). There’s a particularly moody spot in the wood that you can dodge by walking round but of course Aston decided the best route was straight through the muddy puddles making for four very little muddy paws.
We ended up chatting for hours in one of the fields next to the wood, funny how much you can still chat about even after being locked inside for 2 months! Meanwhile Mum and Amy also went on an adventure of their own with a parcel to post. They decided to try going up to the country park and walking to the industrial estate that way which wasn’t the easiest of routes, having to battle their way through very overgrown nettles. There is some great photos of them using their coats as shields.
Jack and I had a date night last night (lock down romance ey?), which basically just consisted of ordering Indian, playing board games and watching Netflix – can’t complain at that though can you? We started a new series, on Jodi’s recommendation, called ‘Dead to Me’. We’ve only one episode in but I’m excited to watch some more. Anyone else feel like they have so much on their watch list right now? I don’t know where to start!
