Dear Isolation #67 & #68

I’m a bit behind on the old blogs, which is a struggle when you can’t even remember what you ate for breakfast.

Sunday was a lazy one, as the best Sunday’s are. Mum and I felt a bit house bound so decided to make the most of the nice weather and take a walk up to the country park. The dogs were out in force much to my delight. We befriended a staffy who kept following us and wanting to play ball, can’t tell you how difficult it was not to give him a fuss – he must have approached us four or five times. There were also some gorgeous, what we described as, ‘miniature lassy’ dogs, not sure what the correct name is for that breed. We also nearly bumped into an old golden retriever who’s owner informed us that ‘he isn’t very road aware.’

Mum did the classic quarantine bake of banana cake on Sunday using up the ever growing pile of browning bananas. This is a big statement but I think it was the best banana cake I’d ever had. She put in a few chocolate chips and drizzled a bit of the melted Betty Crocker vanilla frosting on top (she’s still going strong) and it was delicious.

Amy met a pal on Monday for a picnic. She walked up and met her at the country park (and her adorable dog Milo) and they walked back and had a picnic by the lake. Amy told me that Milo now recognises her name, so when Sophie calls ‘Milo, where’s Amy?’ he will run to her – which is very sweet. I think she appreciated seeing and speaking to a different human/dog (don’t  blame her). She was all suncreemed up and managed to get off without burning, that is everywhere except her hair line and her scalp, Jack and I found her little red headband of burn quite funny but I don’t she did as much.

We had the classic Bank Holiday Monday BBQ and it was delicious. Mum had ordered some of the beyond meat burgers for Amy and I, which are so good! The best substitute I’ve found for beef. She also made some halloumi, onion and pepper skewers which were great – mum knows how to BBQ. For pudding she melted some dark chocolate and dipped in strawberries and cherries, I ended up with chocolate all around my face which I think shows how much I enjoyed it.

We made the most of the beautiful weather and stayed outside and played some games. We played Chameleon, a game that gives me such anxiety. There is a card with a table of words all linking to a category e.g film genres and through a clever dice rolling/card thing (well described Megan) everyone is aware of which word they are describing apart than one person (who is the chameleon). Everyone has to say one word to describe that thing, including the Chameleon who is trying to blend in and then they must guess who the Chameleon is. The idea though is that you have to be quite vague with your word in order for the Chameleon to not work out what the word is, if they do they get the point. It’s very fun it just gives me heart palpitations whenever I am the Chameleon.
