Dear Isolation #86 & #87

This blog was always intended to try and document the moments of positivity and laughter in these very weird and often disheartening times and that is still what we intend to do. However, it feels unjust to not touch upon the shared sense of heartache we’ve felt for our country at the moment. We have been shocked and astounded at some of the backlash to the BLM protests and discussion. Likewise, the impact of Corona Virus on Black and Asian minorities is equally as a devastating and I for one cannot believe how little this has been represented in our news and media. We are continuing as a family to keep reading, talking, watching, listening and challenging.

Friday was a slow day for me, I was running on much less sleep than I need (not good for me or anyone in my vicinity!). Amy and mum fancied a trip out the house so decided to spice up the supermarket run and go to Morrisons (crazy ey?). This was met with instant regret when they realised that the concept of corona did not appear to exist in Morrison’s and it was a free for all. No one way system, no limit of people, utter madness they described. They were very glad to have their masks on.

Mum and I went on a very rainy walk in the evening to brush away the cobwebs. We had our rain macs done up to our chins and our hoods up, both wearing our matching green wellies (beauties!). We only bumped into one other couple, who although looked a lot more stylish also looked a lot more wet. We said hello to the cows but they were sensibly hiding from the rain by the hedge.

Jack and I went on a much less rainy walk on Saturday around Badby. I gave him a tour of all the beautifully quaint cottages and managed to follow the same track up the wood that I’d walked a few weeks back with Mum and Amy. The woods were very peaceful and we also managed to not get lost (result). I was very pleased/suprised when we found the brick arch marking the entrance of the wood. We of course had to make the most of the new shop and bought ourselves some icecream and a coffee to have on the village green. Jack also bought a fancy looking IPA Beer to try and we chose some Iced coffee milk to have at home which was delicious. Not your bog standard corner shop.

Amy’s baking mission of Saturday was a rainbow cheese cake. She wanted to bake something particularly epic as she’s entering it in a local baking competition – which in current circumstances is judged solely on looks! She had to seperate the cheesecake mixture into 6 bowls and colour each one individually – Jack found this very enjoyable to watch (he’s the best baking hype man ‘that looks sick!’) She then magically (I’m sure it’s something to do with science and forces but I’m thick) poured each one on top of the base and it spread out into almost perfect circles. The photo will hopefully allow this to make more sense. Sadly for us, it took almost 2 hours to bake and then a further hour to settle in the oven followed by another 4 hours cooling! So you will have to wait for the next blog to see the end result.

We played a few board games in the evening while waiting for Chinese, this was interrupted by a sudden massive down pour meaning we had to quickly rescue the washing – all getting soaked in the process. Jack has been craving a Chinese for about 3 months so he was a happy boy, Amy who is starving from about 5pm was a happy girl too when we finally ate at 7.
