What happened Thursday during the day has now become a bit of a blur, this is what happens when I end up with a three day blog (should have learnt by now!). I’m sure it involved sewing and/or paint by numbers. In the evening we had the weekly family quiz, this week hosted by Annie and Tom or should I say Lily Savage. They put together their own version of blankety blank, Amy and I too young to appreciate the original game show concluded it was instead like Snatch Game from Ru Paul. We had questions such as “Sally’s guilty pleasure is ‘blank'” (this was kept PG surprisingly), “Annie was disgusted when Tom put ‘blank’ on their pizza” and “Amy’s rainbow cake ended up looking like ‘blank'” – plot twist, we all said shit.
Mum and I braved Daventry on Friday, or more impressively Mum braved me driving after a 3 month break – we both live to tell the tale. Most of the shops appear to be open now so it was pretty busy, we sported the most colourful masks we saw. We’d been sent on a mission to find golden syrup for Amy’s Friday bake of flapjack’s but there appears to be a shortage at the moment – first world problems ey?
Jack was buzzing for the football starting again, I don’t understand the need to dub in crowd sounds over the top but apparently it’s awkward to watch without. We didn’t have tears or elation though as it ended 1-1.
Saturday was a pretty great day as 2020 days go. Amy finally got the go ahead to go and collect the rest of her stuff from her uni flat (most excited for her pop tarts) so we took a trip to York via Donaster. We had a picnic in Grandma and Grandad’s garden, joined by Katie and Julie. It was very refreshing to see them in in the flesh rather than in a tiny square on a computer screen.
The rest of the family left to York and I stayed with Grandma and Grandad for the afternoon – I definitely got the best deal. Their next door neighbour has a grand total of 11 dogs (I know?!) including a 10 week old puppy called Biscuit. We were giving the dogs a pet over the fence and she asked if I would like a puppy cuddle – who could possibly say no?! We didn’t get any photos of this but I was almost in tears, she was an adorable little lump and very content in my arms.
Grandad gave us a grand tour of his garden, showing us all the fruit/nut trees and vegetables he’d planted. He’s got pears, plums, tomatoes, raspberries, tomatoes, blackberries, courgettes, lettuces, beans, onions – to name a few! We also had a look at the bees too who were enjoying licking off the honey from the buckets and sieves that they’ve been using to prepare the honey jars. Grandad asked if I would like to get in a suit and have a closer look but I said I was happy from a safe distance.
When the rest of the crew arrived back, car jammed full of stuff, we had fish and chips in the garden. It was still lovely and sunny and we were all very hungry! We were very lucky for the weather but Grandma had cleaned out the workshop just in case we had to shelter.
We left with full tummy’s and happy hearts.
