Wow how is it June already? Anyone else feeling that time seems to be travelling both very slowly and very fast this year? Jack couldn’t believe he has been staying with us for over 10 weeks – almost a piece of the furniture now (in the nicest way possible!)
Monday was Tim and Sally’s 29th wedding anniversary, so more reasons to celebrate. Homemade lockdown cards were particularly strong as you can see in the photo. Amy cooked us a delicious celebratory meal of homemade chicken korma and sourdough naan bread , with help from Megan when the frying of the naan got fast and furious. Tim and Sal went on a romantic evening stroll whilst the youngsters recovered from the cooking and washing up.
The keep fit workout was chosen by Amy on Monday and involved gliding – aka putting facecloths under our hands or feet whilst doing lunges, planks, push ups etc. We thought it was going to be a bit of a gimmick but it was actually really tough, if not a bit hazardous as we slipped around the living room. Don’t know if that workout was to blame or just how she slept but Amy woke on Tuesday with a very stiff and painful neck. She spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday in bed taking pain killers and requesting frequent neck rubs, but is now a lot better and even managed a shower and hair wash today, she now smells as sweet as honey.
The rest of us, who haven’t been in bed, have been working, sewing, doing life admin, building Lego models, playing games and enjoying the last of the sunshine before the rain started. Jack got the Harry Potter knight bus Lego set for his birthday and the concentration used when he builds it keeps Megan amused. Yesterday Amy felt up to playing a few games and gave Jack a run for his money playing Connect Four, strangely he seemed to enjoy been beaten – think he liked having a decent opponent.
Sally and Tim watched this week’s NT live play ‘This House’ about the houses of parliament during the 5 years up to Maggie Thatcher becoming PM. Tim really enjoyed it, it was quite funny with stereotypical norther Labour MP’s and posh Conservatives and the set was very cleverly done. Sally found the story a bit repetitive but you got a sense of British politics not having moved on a great deal since the 1970’s – the bargaining of a hung parliament and the games played behind the scenes all seemed very familiar.
On a more serious note we have had quite a few conversations about race and equality this week with the Black Lives Matter movement being so prominent on social media, following the murder of George Floyd in America. We all feel we need to educate ourselves more on white privilege and how we can be more anti-racist and help promote change. So we are using some of our time to read, listen learn, and reflect.
So that took a serious turn, but it’s not all fun and games – although it mainly is tea and cake! With Amy, our resident baker, incapacitated Megan took up the reins and baked chocolate fudge brownies. They were delicious and very very gooey, because as Megan put ‘No one likes an over baked brownie’ .
