Dear Isolation #78 & #79

Joint effort for this one, starting with sal gal.

The main daytime excitement of Thursday was a trip to the local drive thru Starbucks.  Jack and Megan ventured out to find no queue and quickly returned with coffees, Frappuccino’s and smoothies.  We all enjoyed our drinks; the novelty of getting takeout coffee gave much more pleasure than you’d imagine.  This could become a more regular treat now places are opening up but we’ll be avoiding the McDonalds queues for the foreseeable.  Next time we will have to take our custom to a local business – I’ve found one that does tea and cake which has to be worth a try.

Amy’s neck continued to improve, although she wasn’t up to the morning workout. Sally and Megan tried yet another new workout – YouTube just keeps on giving – the arms and legs took a further battering.  Amy did manage a walk around the lakes to see the swans, tadpoles and waterlilies and we can confirm that the new bridge, Tim helped build the other day, is quite sturdy.

Jack was very excited (think child in a sweetshop) by the arrival of his online shopping and treated us to a fashion show. However the excitement faded when only one of the four items fitted properly. We didn’t think 1 in 4 was too bad – it’s not unusual for us (and Megan in particular) to send a whole order back.  Often a case of internet versus reality.

More excitement took place in the evening with our weekly family zoom quiz. Everyone remembered to turn up this week although Megan got a bit delayed with her work so we chatted about radishes and honey while we waited for her – the family banter always seems to go back to gardening and food, but mainly food.  We were all a bit jealous that dad (John) was eating a walnut whip, but less so for Tom’ s warm but practically raw carrots.  Mike and Lindsey hosted the quiz and the strangest fact we learnt was that the Guinness world record for the longest continuous piece of apple peel is 52 meters – even more surprising was a guess from Julie of 53 meters to win the point.

Back to Megan…

Amy was feeling up for a bit of a workout on Friday morning so joined us for a standing abs workout, she’s not quite ready yet for crunches or planking (for that I was very grateful!).

I decided to give my room a bit of a deep clean which always takes way longer than you first expect, I found myself in a place of deep regret when I was sat on the bathroom floor surrounded by half empty bottles of shampoo and conditioner wishing I’d never started the job.

The gals took a trip out to the garden centre for the exciting purchase of some compost. I have learnt that garden centres are less fun when you can’t just aimlessly mooch and feel pressured to keep your pace up round the one way system (oh to mooch again.) We did admire some of the pretty plants, Amy got excited about the idea of a blueberry tree and I was far too invested in the garden furniture than a 22 year old should be. Our haul was pretty measly consisting of compost, one tomato plant and some sugared almonds (jack requested a snack and this is all we could find!).
